How to Calculate UIF Maternity, Parental, Illness & Adoption Benefits
To calculate your UIF top-up benefits, we use your monthly salary before and during leave and the official UIF salary ceiling (R17,712 per month in 2025). The daily benefit amount (DBA) is 66% of income, capped at R17,712 per month.
Calculate Daily Income (DI)
Divide your annual salary by 365. Example: R30,000 × 12 ÷ 365 = R986.30/day (DI).
Calculate Leave Income
Divide your annual salary during leave by 365. Example: R25,000 × 12 ÷ 365 = R821.92/day (leave income).
Calculate Top-Up Benefit
Top-up = DI − leave income (difference). If difference < DBA (66% of income, capped at R17,712/month), pay difference. Else, pay DBA. Example: R986.30 − R821.92 = R164.38/day.
