How the SASSA Payment Order Works

SASSA does not pay all grants on the same day. Instead, it follows a fixed order that repeats every month. This staggered approach prevents overcrowding at pay points and gives the banking system time to process millions of transactions.

Grant Type Typical Payment Window
Older Persons Grant Paid first – usually the 1st to 3rd of each month. If the 1st falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment moves to the last working day before it.
Disability Grant Paid the day after Older Persons grants, typically around the 2nd to 4th.
Child Support, Foster Child & Care Dependency Paid one to two days after Disability grants, usually around the 3rd to 5th.
SRD Grant (R370) Paid last, typically in batches from around the 23rd to the last day of the month. Your specific date depends on your ID number range and payment method.

SASSA publishes exact dates before each month begins. The pattern below reflects the general schedule based on previous months in 2026. Always confirm the specific dates on srd.sassa.gov.za or SASSA's official social media pages.

How to Collect Your SASSA Payment

Once your grant is approved and the payment date arrives, there are several ways to get your money.

  • Bank account. If you linked a bank account to your SASSA profile, the money goes straight in on your payment date. This is the fastest and most reliable method.
  • SASSA gold card at an ATM. If you have a SASSA-branded card, you can withdraw at any ATM. Be aware of ATM withdrawal fees that your bank may charge.
  • Post Office. Some grants can still be collected at a Post Office branch. Bring your ID and SASSA card. Expect queues, especially in the first few days of the month.
  • Retail pay points. Certain retailers like Boxer and Pick n Pay act as SASSA pay points. You can collect in store using your SASSA card.
  • Cash send / eWallet. For SRD specifically, SASSA sometimes uses bank cash-send or eWallet services. You get an SMS with a voucher code to withdraw at an ATM without needing a card.

Why Your Payment Might Be Late

If your expected payment date comes and goes without money arriving, there are a few common reasons.

  • Status is still pending. If your application for that month has not been finalised, payment cannot go through. Check what pending means and how long it usually takes.
  • Banking details are wrong. A closed account, incorrect account number, or a name mismatch between your ID and your bank account can block payment. Update your banking details to fix this.
  • Batch processing delays. SRD payments go out in batches, not all at once. Your ID number range might be in a later batch, so give it until the end of the month before panicking.
  • System glitches. SASSA's systems handle millions of payments. Occasionally there are technical delays that affect a batch of recipients. These usually resolve within a day or two.

If you have been approved but have not received payment by the last day of the month, see our guide on what to do when your SASSA payment has not arrived.

SRD R370 Payment: What Makes It Different

The SRD grant works differently from the other SASSA grants when it comes to payment timing. Here is why.

Unlike the Older Persons or Disability grants which have fixed, predictable dates, the SRD grant is reassessed from scratch every month. SASSA runs the means test, checks your bank data, verifies your identity, and only then approves you for that specific month. This process takes time, which is why SRD payments always come later in the month than other grants.

Once approved, your SRD payment is added to a batch. Batches are processed based on factors like your ID number range and your payment method (bank transfer vs cash send). This means two people who are both approved might get paid on different days within the same month.

The best way to know your specific payment date is to check your SASSA status – once approved, the status page usually shows the exact date your payment is scheduled.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does SASSA pay the R370 grant?

The SRD R370 grant usually pays out in batches from around the 23rd to the last day of each month. Your exact date depends on your ID number range and payment method.

Why did I get paid on a different date than someone else?

SASSA processes SRD payments in batches. Different ID number ranges and different banks process at different speeds, so your date may differ by a few days from someone else's.

Can I change my payment method?

Yes. You can update your banking details on the SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za. Make sure the bank account is in your name and matches your ID details exactly.

Do SASSA payment dates change on public holidays?

Yes. If a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, SASSA typically moves the payment to the last working day before it. December payments often come earlier than usual to beat the holiday shutdown.
